NSMBW World Dioramas


Remasters of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii world selection icons, made in Blender.

This is the first project that I worked on in Blender. Initially my goal was just to make an edit to the diorama models and try to import them back into the game. But I got carried away messing around with textures and lighting and made the world 1 diorama look quite pretty. I then decided to refine the visuals slightly then animate it spinning. I was so satisfied with the outcome that I decided to also remake worlds 2 to 9.

Each world introduced something new for me to learn, from animated textures to coloured light to bone animation. I also had the task of recreating procedurally generated textures by eye, which took some time to figure out.

After rendering everything, I experimented some more with stylistic effects on the world 1 diorama, such as adding a solid outline and pixellation.
